"Weight of the World" was designed to be an EP featuring the best songs the newly 4-piece Stiffler had to offer in the Spring of 2003. After a tremendously productive studio session at Mike BBQ's studio (the name of which I can't remember) we emerged with a full-length's worth of material and released it to moderate local success. And then life happened and it's been almost ten years since all we've been in a room together. Recorded in April 2003, "Weight of the World" features four naive and relatively innocent young men showcasing songwriting ability and hooks beyond their years. Included here are demos recorded in the middle of the night in summer 2002, acoustic demos recorded at practice and my 17th birthday party, and live tracks recorded on a videocassette at a show in downtown Houston at the Engine Room on a barren Sunday night. The original master recordings of this album have never been properly released. In 2003, we assumed 128 kbps MP3 files were good as gold, and had our CD's pressed by uploading these to an online company. They sound like shit. Here are the songs we wrote and recorded, as we intended them to sound. I doubt any of us resemble the people we were 10 years ago, but listening to these songs makes me as happy today as it did on the drive home from the studio in 2003.
